# Scan cards, badges, and QR codes

> Capture a contact, check the result, and save it to Tapify.

Use the scanner to turn a paper business card, event badge, or supported QR code into a Tapify contact.

## Start a scan

1. Open Tapify and select **Scan**.
2. Allow camera access if asked.
3. Choose **Badge**, **Paper Card**, or **QR Code**.
4. Follow the guide on screen.

For a badge or paper card, position it inside the frame and tap the shutter button. QR codes are detected automatically.

Use the flashlight button when the card is too dark, but turn it off if it creates glare.

## What Tapify can scan

### Paper cards

Tapify reads visible details such as a name, job title, company, phone number, email address, website, LinkedIn profile, and address.

Place the card on a plain surface and keep all text inside the frame. For double-sided cards, scan the side with the person’s main contact details, then add anything missing during review.

### Event badges

Use **Badge** for conference and event passes. Tapify looks for the attendee’s identity and professional details. Event names, booth numbers, access labels, and ticket information are not treated as contact information.

### QR codes

Tapify can read:

* vCard QR codes
* LinkedIn profile QR codes
* QR codes that open a digital business card or public profile page

A QR code that only contains an unrelated link, payment request, ticket, or Wi-Fi password will not create a contact.

## Review the result

After processing, Tapify opens a review screen. Before saving, you can:

* **Edit** incorrect or missing information
* Add a **Note**
* **Enrich** the contact with Tapify Pro
* Turn on **Send my card to…** when the contact has an email address

The send-card option is off by default. Tapify sends a link to your digital business card only when you turn it on and save the contact.

Tap **Done** to keep the contact. Closing the review without finishing discards the draft, and the scan does not count toward your allowance.

## Free scan allowance

The Free plan includes 10 saved scans. A scan counts when you finish the review and save the contact. Failed scans and discarded drafts do not count. Tapify Pro and team accounts include unlimited scans.

You can see the number of free scans remaining at the top of the scanner.

## Get a clearer result

* Use even lighting and avoid shadows.
* Hold the phone directly above the card or badge.
* Keep the text sharp and inside the frame.
* Remove the card from a reflective sleeve.
* Review names, email addresses, and phone numbers before saving.

Scanned information can be incomplete or incorrect. You remain in control of what is saved.

If a scan fails repeatedly, see [Troubleshooting](/individual/help/troubleshooting#scanning-does-not-work).
